Enlarge Your Capacity

I read the book of Proverbs nearly every day and there's a verse that struck me very intensely a while back and that’s where I drew this inspiration from; this verse says ‘if you fail under pressure, then it means your strength is small.’ The truth remains that challenges and adversities have a way it stretches our capacity.

Many years ago, I had this overwhelming experience because I had too many things I was handling - well, it appeared as though I was doing too much. I decided to seek counsel from my revered mentor, Dr Olumide Emmanuel, and while I lamented on how I was feeling overwhelmed, he kept smiling. Finally, he asked me a very humorous question, a simple question actually, and the question was ‘if a generating set is jerking, what could be the problem?’ .

I replied, ‘the load is too much on the generator.’ Okay, good, that’s fine, he said. He then went further and asked, ‘so, what do you do? Do you add more fuel to handle the issue?’ I answered, ‘No.’ He continued, ‘do you add more engine oil?’ I said, ‘No.’ He then went ahead to ask finally, ‘Tell me exactly what do you do?’ I replied, ‘you either increase the capacity of the generator or you reduce the load on it.’ He said, ‘yes! Go and increase your capacity!.
